Every woman and girl deserves to exist without fear, online and offline. But the reality is that technology has been weaponized against hundreds of millions of women and girls through deepfakes, harassment, doxing, cyber-stalking, image-based abuse, cyberbullying, and other forms of technology-facilitated violence.

The rates are highest for women in politics, media, and leadership roles across sectors. When women and girls are afraid to run for office, stand in the public eye, or speak out, our democracy, economy, and societal fabric is weakened.

Behind every one of these harms is a company that profits from harvesting and weaponizing data without consent. They design apps to exploit insecurities. They hide how their technology works and evade responsibility. All while women remain underrepresented in the leadership ranks of the companies that shape our digital lives.

American tech companies built the platforms that reach billions worldwide, but the United States has done less than almost any comparable democracy to protect women and girls from technology-facilitated violence.

No woman or girl should have to choose between her safety and her voice. We stand in solidarity with activists and organizations demanding accountability and change.
